Sharon Himes' interests in nature, art
and history have led her into various projects over the last
30 years, including:
Painting the flora and fauna of Maryland's
Pocomoke Forest in watercolor
is an enduring passion. She follows her curiosity into studying
the botanical details of her subjects and explores the forest
with a naturalist's eye. She is fascinated by the progression
of seasons through the forest and occassionally writes Woodland
Seasons, an online journal of her finds.
A prolific artist and designer, Sharon's
art is available as giclee reproductions.
Licensing opportunities are available through the Woodland
Studio.
Her pen and ink botanical drawings and
illustrated maps are found in newspapers, magazine articles and
books including John V. Dennis' 'Great Cypress Swamps' (LSU Press).
She wrote and illustrated a chapter in Patricia Seligman's book
'Watercolor Artists' Flower Handbook' published by Search Press.
In 1995 Himes founded what is now known
as the ArtCafe Artists Network,
an extensive web site and artists' community where she continues
as Director. She has written dozens of informative articles,
demonstrations and e-lessons for the ArtCafe and the associated
ArtE-Lessons.com. Illustrated maps of the Chesapeake Bay region
are available as prints.
Her interest in the history of Maryland's
Eastern Shore lead to the discovery of the long-forgotten journal
of Henry Norwood, a visitor to the area in the winter of 1650.
After more than two years of research she wrote and illustrated
'Cavalier's Adventure:
The Story of Henry Norwood' currently available through Heritage
Press (2002).
Sharon Himes lives in the Pocomoke Forest
