Born in Washington DC, Sharon Himes lives on the
Eastern Shore of Maryland where she pursues her interests into
art and nature.
Himes has a varied background with experience
in radio and television production, business and writing. For
fifteen years she and her husband owned and managed a successful
art gallery and frame shop, Salisbury
Art & Framing in Salisbury, Maryland. They sold the business
in 1989 and built Himes' home studio where she explores the nearby
Pocomoke Forest and paints Woodland Watercolors.
Sharon Himes attended Fairmont State College
in Fairmont, WV where she majored in Speech and Drama and minored
in art. She is largely a self-taught watercolorist and over the
last 25 years developed her own techniques to build layers of
delicate color in her paintings. Her work has been featured in
American Artist magazine and is widely collected in the region.
The book, Watercolor Artists Flower Handbook (Quarto 2006) by
Patricia Seligman includes demonstrations and practical advice
by thirteen leading floral artists including the chapter: 'Experiencing
nature through sketching' by Sharon Himes showing her unique
approach to painting wildflowers.
Sharon Himes is a popular speaker and instructor,
teaching encouraging hands-on watercolor workshops for artists
at all levels. She teaches watercolor workshops and owrites articles
on art and art history for an international audience through
the ArtCafe.Net
